Hyvä was born out of that frustration — a clean-slate rebuild of Magento’s frontend using the PHP templating system. The result?

Starting November 10, 2025, Hyvä Theme will be free to use, modify, and redistribute under the OSL3 + AFL3 license.
Developers and merchants can now access Hyvä directly via GitHub or install it with free Packagist Composer keys through the Hyvä Portal.

This means:

• Full access to Hyvä Theme code

  learn, extend, and customize freely.

• No license barriers

  build commercial themes and custom solutions on top of Hyvä.

• A stronger Magento ecosystem

  with more contributions, collaboration, and innovation.

• Lower entry barriers

  empowering smaller merchants, startups, and students to launch faster

Hyvä is not just a theme anymore, it’s a movement toward open innovation in Magento.

Evolving the Ecosystem

While the Hyvä Theme is now open source, other premium products remain available to support advanced commerce needs:

  now available separately for just €250 per Magento store.

Existing Hyvä license holders will keep their premium support and access to Hyvä UI. Cashbacks and upgrade paths will remain open for users moving to Hyvä Commerce.
